
Kiely & Mac Lead Travs over Missions

North Little Rock - The Arkansas Travelers pick up their first win in the home stand in a 3-1 win over the San Antonio Missions on Thursday night at Dickey-Stephens Park. Tim Kiely pitched an outstanding seven innings, which led to the Travs win along with the offensive help of Paul McAnulty's two home runs (14). With seven homers in the last ten games, McAnulty takes the Texas League lead in homers.
With the win over San Antonio the Travs improve their record to 17-27, and the Missions drop to 22-24.
Travs starter Tim Kiely (4-4) picked up his fourth win by pitching seven innings and giving up only one run on two hits. Robert Fish (1) entered the game in the top of the eighth inning, and faced only six batters in two innings receiving his first save of the season. The Missions sent Nathan Culp to the mound, and he threw five innings giving up one run on six hits before leaving the game and turning things over to lefty reliever Alexis Lara. Lara (1-2) received his second loss pitching two innings giving up one run on two hits.
Kiely owned the first three innings by setting down the first nine Missions batters in a row. Paul McAnulty hit a two out solo homerun to right field to break shut out and give the Travs a 1-0 lead.
The Missions came right back with Mitch Canham hitting a lead-off triple in the fourth. He was scored by a ground ball to second hit by Andrew Parrino that Ivan Contreras fielded then threw away for his fourth error of the season. After the error Kiely got a Cedric Hunter to fly out to center, and Matt Clark to hit into a 1-6-3 double play to end the inning.
In the bottom of the seventh inning the Travs broke the tie with a one out bunt for a hit by Contreras. Contreras then moved to third on an errant pick off attempt to first base. Jeremy Moore came to the plate and hit a line drive single into left scoring Contreras and making the score 2-1. Andrew Romine was next up and he hit a broken bat line drive to second that was caught and thrown to first for the force out to end the inning.
In the bottom of the eighth inning Aaron Poreda entered the game, and that was when McAnulty struck again hitting his second solo homerun of the game making the score 3-1. Poreda then faced Mount, who he got to fly out to left field for the first out. Poreda the faced Abel Nieves and got him to ground out to second followed by a swinging strike out to Efren Navarro to end the inning.
Fish came out in the top of the ninth for his second inning in relief to try to earn the save. Fish got Canham and Parrino to fly out to left for outs one and two. Hunter came up and was struck out swinging to end the game and leave the final score 3-1.
Time of game was 2:21 and the paid attendance 4,368.
The Travs return to action on Friday against The San Antonio Missions at Dickey-Stephens Park. The Travs will start right-hander Ryan Brasier (3-4, 6.21) against Missons right-hander Jeremy Hefner (2-3, 2.87). The game starts at 6:00 p.m. and gates open at 5:00.
