Springfield, MO - Winners of two straight games including game one of the three game set against Corpus Christi, the Springfield Cardinals were trying to make it three in row on Thursday night.

The Hooks, however, would get on the board first in the 3rd inning against starter Nick Additon. After a lead off walk to the pitcher and a single to JB Shuck, Additon retired the next two batters on a sacrifice bunt and a pop out before allowing an RBI single to Koby Clemens to make the score 1-0. It could have been 2-0, but left fielder Aaron Luna threw out Shuck at the plate to end the inning without more damage being done.

Springfield's offense woke up in the bottom of the 4th against the reign Texas League Pitcher of the Week Douglas Arguello as they loaded the bases with two outs on a single by Andrew Brown and two walks to Aaron Luna and Curt Smith. Mike Folli came to the plate and delivered a two-run two-out single to center to give the Cardinals their first lead of the game, 2-1.

The score would stay 2-1 until the top of the 6th as Nick Additon allowed a two out solo home run to German Duran, his 1st of the season, to tie the game 2-2. Additon would last 6.2 innings allowing just the two runs on seven hits while striking out five.

With the game still tied 2-2 in the top of the 8th inning, Corpus Christi got another clutch hit from German Duran, another solo home run, this one against reliever Tom Eager to give the Hooks a 3-2 lead.

Springfield would load the bases in the bottom of the 8th with only one out, but Charlie Cutler bounced into a fielder's choice with an out recorded at the plate and Mike Folli struck out to end the Cardinals' threat.

In the 9th, the Cardinals would get a two-out single by Aaron Miles and then Steven Hill reached on an error put the tying and winning runs on base. Andrew Brown came up and battled with reliever Henry Villar, but after an 11 pitch at-bat, Brown struck out swinging to end the game 3-2.

The Cardinals will conclude their three game series against Corpus Christi Friday night. Springfield will pitch right hander Gary Daley (3-4) in game three against left hander Tyler Lumsden (3-1) of the Hooks.
