December 29, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release
The Stockton Thunder (15-10-0-4) take on the San Francisco Bulls (11-15-3-1) at home at Stockton Arena for their final match up of their three-game weekend set . The puck drops at 4:00 PST with Stockton Arena doors opening at 3 p.m.
Today is "Kids Take Over the Stockton Arena", presented by We Paint, Dr. Lester Low Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, and Naf's Ice Paint, an event where kids have the opportunity to hold various positions throughout the Stockton Arena as well as Thunder Staff Positions. Kids were invited to apply online for jobs ranging from Usher's to Storm Squad to Thunder Broadcasters.
In addition, rally towels will also be given to the first 2,000 fans entering Stockton Arena. After a 7-6 overtime win in last night's contest at Stockton Arena, the Thunder look to win game three of their three-game weekend set against the Bulls.
Tensions from Friday night's match up between the two Pacific Division teams spilled over into last night's game which was a high scoring, action packed overtime game.
The Bulls, who won Fridays' game 5-2 at the Cow Palace, led the Thunder 3-1 at the end of the first period. Forward Mitch Bruijsten who tallied the only goal of the period for the Thunder scored off a rebound from a Greg Miller shot.
The Thunder outscored the Bulls 4-1 during the second period, giving the Thunder a 5-4 lead over the Bulls, their first lead over the San Francisco team.
The offense was led by Bruijsten, who registered an additional 3 points in the second period (1g-2a). His linemates Miller and Joey Martin also collected two points with each contributing one goal and one assist in the frame.
After San Francisco took the 6-5 lead, the Thunder would have to rely on Alex MacLeod to once again tie the game up at 12:39 of the third period. The score would remain that way until overtime. Dean Oulette of the Bulls received a two-minute penalty for high sticking at 2:57 of the overtime period giving the ECHL leading power play unit an opportunity to end the game. The Thunder would convert thanks to Miller with assists coming from Nathan Deck and Martin.
Following today's game will be a hockey first! Kids who register through the Community Corner will be invited to paint the ice after the game. Anyone who had preregistered can head to the Pre-Registration booth on the fan deck to complete the waiver and receive their wristbands. There are still 240 spots to paint the ice, so if you want to be a part of the action, be sure to head to the New Registration Table, also on the fan deck to reserve your spot! The Thunder will host the San Francisco Bulls again on Jan. 3 where the painted ice will be played on in the "We Paint the Ice" event presented by We Paint, Dr. Lester Low Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, and Naf's Ice Paint.
