
Road Warriors' Four-Goal Second Period Propels Team to Victory

Greenville, S.C.: The Road Warriors' scored the most goals in one period this season to help secure a 6-3 win against the Elmira Jackals.
The first period began with the Jackals scoring just 1:49 into the game. Dane Walters scored his first professional goal with a shot that rang off the post and into the net. The Road Warriors kept pressure on the Jackals' net and with four minutes left in the period, Brad Cole found the puck in traffic around the net to score. Cole's second of the year ended the first period tied at one. Michael St. Croix and Josh Nicholls assisted on the goal.
The second period was a high scoring affair with six total goals scored. The Jackals started off the scoring in the frame with Jakub Culek giving Elmira a 2-1 lead. Three minutes later, Marc-Olivier Vallerand scored on a one-timer while on a power play to tie the game at two. St. Croix and Brayden Irwin assisted on the score. Four minutes later, Mike Marcou shot a loose puck past Jackals' goalie Scott Greenham to bring the Road Warriors up by one. Marcou tallied his fifth points in five games. St. Croix notched his third assist in the game on the play. Vallerand collected the other assist. With nine minutes left in the period, Justin Vaive rifled a shot from Andrew Rowe and Irwin to give the Road Warriors a 4-2 lead. Vaive increased his point streak to nine games registering eight goals and seven assists since December 8th. Jackals' forward Rob Bellamy responded three minutes later, cutting Road Warriors lead to a 4-3 score. With 1:50 left in the second, Nicholls drove a wrist shot past Greenham to give Greenville a 5-3 lead. Rowe assisted on the goal for his second on the night.
The third period remained scoreless until Vaive scored his second goal of the game with five minutes left in the period. The power forward jammed the puck past Greenham along the crease with assists given Paul Arnott and Rowe. The assist was Rowe's third of the game. The goal was the final mark of the night as Greenville won their seventh in eight games by a score of 6-3. The team is also back to .500 since the sixth game of the season; when they first played Elmira. Connor Knapp made 38 saves to improve his record to 6-7-1.
