Richmond Kickers News Release
RICHMOND, VA - (Thursday, May 15, 2014) - The Richmond Kickers (3-1-3, 12 points) continue a three-games-in-five-days gauntlet this weekend, traveling to the Oklahoma City Energy FC (2-5-0, 6 points) on Friday, May 16 before taking on the Chicago Fire Reserves (3-0-1) of Major League Soccer on Sunday, May 18. Both games will be streamed on YouTube.com/RichmondKickers live from Pribil Stadium at 8:00 p.m. and Toyota Park at 5:30 p.m., respectively.
The Kickers take to the road following a 4-0 win over Arizona United SC at City Stadium last week. Reduced to 10 men inside the first half hour, Arizona held the Kickers scoreless through the first half before conceding a pair of goals on either side of a 30-minute lightning delay. Midfielder George Davis IV and Matthew Delicâte opened scoring before the hour mark with Christiano Francois and an own goal rounding out the scoreline just before the final whistle.
Friday's game marks the one and only match-up and the first-ever meeting between the Kickers and the expansion Oklahoma City, who opened their inaugural campaign with a 2-0 win on the road over the Orange County Blues in April. Most recently, the USL PRO newcomers dropped a narrow 1-0 loss to the Blues on the return match at Pribil Stadium, conceding a 90th minute goal in a game that was otherwise even at 13 shots apiece.
Less than 48 hours later, the Kickers will continue onward to Chicago to take on the Fire Reserves on Sunday as a component of a groundbreaking inter-league affiliation between USL PRO and Major League Soccer. Sunday's game, which counts in both the official USL PRO and MLS Reserve League standings, is a part of the Fire's 10-game East Division schedule, which also includes matches against USL PRO sides Rochester Rhinos, Charlotte Eagles, and Wilmington Hammerheads.
Following this weekend's grueling road trip, the Kickers return to City Stadium to host the Charlotte Eagles on Saturday, May 24. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. and tickets are on sale now at RichmondKickers.com.
