Dayton, OH, May 15 2014 - The Dayton Dutch Lions FC started their 2014 US OPEN CUP run with a 2-0 win against Schwaben AC in Buffalo Grove, nearby Chicago. Goals from Eli Garner (assisted by Jesjua Angoy Cruijff) in the first half and Jesjua Angoy Cruijff (assisted by Joe Broekhuizen) in the second half gave the USL PRO team the win on a cold and wet day in Chicago.
Head Coach Sid van Druenen stated about the game "This was a well played game, with some good chances for both teams and a good result for us. We were very well received by Schwaben AC tonight and I want to thank them for that. They put together a good team and the facility is very nice."
Also midfielder Matt Walker was happy with the win, "It was an extremely competitive game. We knew they were going to give everything they had and they did", Walker said and continued, "Now that we won we can focus on Indy Eleven. I know they've been getting god crowds and it should be exciting. It's what you play in the cup for."
