
Kickers Hold On To Third Place After Pair Of Road Draws

RICHMOND, VA - (Tuesday, August 16, 2005) - The Richmond Kickers (10-7-7, 37 points) were able to hold onto third place in the USL First Division standings after a pair of road draws in the Pacific Northwest last weekend. Breaking a five-game scoreless streak, Kickers defender Peter Luzak notched his first goal of the season with an equalizer in the 89th minute, drawing Seattle 1-1 on Saturday. On Sunday, midfielder Tim Brown registered his first goal of the year with a 30-yard blast in the 67th minute to tie the Vancouver Whitecaps 1-1. Looking ahead, the Kickers will travel to Charleston this Saturday, August 20th to face the Battery for the fourth and final time during regular season play.
2005 Playoff Structure
A tight race for playoff positioning, the top six teams in the USL First Division standings will advance to post-season play. Currently, only eight points separate the top five teams. Now tied for fourth, Seattle and Vancouver rest one point behind the Kickers, each with a 9-4-9 record and 36 points, while Montreal sits at the top of the table with an impressive 13-2-5 record and 44 points, one point ahead of second-place Rochester (13-6-4, 43 points).
At the conclusion of the regular season, the #1 and #2 overall seeds (based on regular season points and league tiebreakers, if applicable) will receive Round One byes. All playoff rounds will be two-legged aggregate score series with the exception of the USL First Division Championship with the Host determined on a bid basis to be played on Saturday, October 1st.

Next Home Game
The Kickers return home after a three-week road stretch to face the Portland Timbers in the last regular season home game on Saturday, September 3rd at 7:00 p.m. at the University of Richmond Stadium. During the match, the Richmond Kickers will host a farewell celebration in honor of Rob Ukrop, Richmond's most notable soccer hero. Ukrop, an eleven-year Kickers veteran and franchise record-holder in several categories, announced his retirement from professional soccer in December 2004. The Kickers will acknowledge Ukrop's contributions on and off the field by retiring his #6 jersey during halftime. The first 1,000 youth fans in attendance will receive a limited edition Rob Ukrop #6 replica t-shirt.
