Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD-The Frederick Keys (32-33) improved their winning streak to seven games with a 10-3 victory over the Down East Wood Ducks (34-32) on Thursday night at Nymeo Field. It marks the longest streak for the Keys since last July 16-23 when the Keys won seven straight against Down East and Wilmington.
The Keys got the scoring started in the second inning. Collin Woody and Cole Billingsley singled and advanced on a Chris Clare sacrifice bunt. That brought up Daniel Fajardo, who drove in Woody and Billingsley with a single.
Down East scored a run in the fourth on a Chuck LeBlanc home run. They would tie up the game in the fifth on another home run, this time off the bat of Alex Kowalczyk.
Frederick, however, would answer in the bottom of the fifth with four runs of their own. Ryan McKenna walked, and Colby Rasmus singled. With two outs, Jomar Reyes singled and McKenna scored on a throwing error from LeBlanc. One batter later, Woody hit a three-run home run to left field to push the Keys lead to 6-2.
The orange and black added another run in the sixth on a pair of triples. Clare hit his second three-bagger of the year, and McKenna drove him in two batters later with another triple. The Wood Ducks answered with a run in the top of the seventh on an RBI single that made it a 7-3 Keys lead.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Keys added three more insurance runs. Billingsley led off with a walk, and was thrown out at home trying to advance on a Clare double. Fajardo then drove in his third run of the game on a single up the middle to score Clare. McKenna followed with a single, and Fajardo scored on a Wood Ducks error. McKenna would later score on a wild pitch that ended the scoring.
Cristian Alvarado (6-5) earned the victory for Frederick. Producing his seventh quality outing in 12 starts, the right-hander allowed two runs on six hits. He did not walk a batter while striking out six. Walker Weickel (1-6) was tagged with the loss for Down East. He allowed seven runs on 10 hits in 5.1 innings. Mike Burke picked up his first save of the year. The right-hander pitched 2.1 scoreless innings and struck out three.
The Keys will play their third doubleheader in four days on Friday night against the Wood Ducks. In game one, the Keys will send right-hander Ofelky Peralta (2-6, 6.11) to the mound against Wood Ducks right-hander Steven Bruce (1-2, 2.45). Neither team has announced a starter for game two. First pitched is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn Radio app.
Friday marks the first of two days of the Cowboy Monkey Rodeo. Team Ghostriders will do two teasers during game two of the doubleheader, and a full show after the game with a fireworks supershow to follow. For tickets, fans can call 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.
