Frederick Keys News Release
The Keys closed out the weekend with another win as they completed the three-game sweep of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans with a 6-1 victory on Sunday night. Bobby Bundy allowed one unearned run over seven innings as he notched his tenth win of the season. Frederick's pitching staff held the top hitting team in the Carolina League to just one run on 10 hits over the weekend.
Heading into the third inning, Frederick trailed Myrtle Beach, 1-0, after the Pelicans plated an unearned run in the top of the second. In the bottom of the third, the Keys looked to take the lead as they loaded the bases with no outs. RF Steve Bumbry grounded into a fielder's choice for the first out of the inning. Pelicans' starter, Miguel De Los Santos, then struck out 2B Jonathan Schoop for the second out of the inning. With two down and the bases still loaded, SS Manny Machado stepped to the plate. Machado hit a lazy fly ball to center field that should have ended the inning but CF David Paisano was unable to make the catch. Paisano's critical error allowed all three runners to score. With the Keys in front by two, Machado moved into scoring position when he swiped second base with 1B Michael Flacco at the dish. Flacco followed with a RBI single to cap off the four-run third for Frederick.
Miguel Abreu added the lone earned run in Sunday's box score when he hit a soaring blast to left field in the sixth inning. Abreu's fourth home run of the year came on first pitch from De Los Santos in the bottom of the sixth.
Bobby Bundy finished up his evening after seven strong innings. Bundy allowed one run, zero earned, on two hits while striking out six and walking none. The Owasso, OK native improved to 10-5 on the season and tied teammate Nathan Moreau for the Carolina League lead in wins.
LHP Chris Petrini closed out Sunday night's game with two perfect innings of relief.
Frederick will try to carry the momentum from the weekend into the work week as the Keys welcome the Salem Red Sox to town for the start of a four-game series on Monday night. LHP Jake Pettit (2-0, 0.75) will start the series opener for Frederick while his counterpart will be LHP Drake Britton (1-9, 7.35). First pitch from Harry Grove Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Monday night is Salute to the Stink Bugs night presented by Mosquito Squad. The first 250 fans through the gates will receive a Keys fly swatter along with a close pin. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. For tickets, contact the Keys box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at www.frederickkeys.com.
