Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

- LHP Miguel De Los Santos (2-1, 3.27) at RHP Bobby Bundy (9-5, 3.11) -

SORRY YOU'RE FEELING SO BLANK INSIDE: Saturday's shutout marked the Pelicans' first back-to-back shutouts since defeats of 8-0 and 4-0 at Potomac on May 5 and 6 of last season. A Pelicans offense that outscored its opponents 49-27 in seven wins on an eight-game homestand last week suddenly finds itself searching for answers to its anemic road woes. Saturday, the Pelicans didn't get a hit until one out in the fifth inning, didn't get a man past first base on the day, and only produced six total baserunners. After Friday's shutout and no run in their final inning of a 7-5 win over Wilmington on Thursday, the Pelicans have now gone 19 innings without touching the plate.

ROAD TO NOWHERE: Myrtle Beach's struggles on the road are becoming more and more pronounced over the season's second half. Since the All-Star Break, the Pelicans are 5-10 away from BB&T Coastal Field, and as a team, the Pelicans are batting .245 on the road versus a .289 team average at home. Despite the massive average discrepancy, however, the Pelicans have only scored ten fewer runs away from the beach than they have at home. Again, though, the dichotomy is more pronounced in the second half. Through 14 second-half home games, in which the Pelicans have gone 10-4, Myrtle Beach has outscored its opponents 77-49 including 49-27 on last week's eight-game homestand. On the road, the Pelicans have dropped ten of 15 second-half tilts and have been outscored 64-52 including 45-38 while going 3-7 on their season-long ten-game road trip two weeks ago.

KEYS TO THE KINGDOM: Saturday night's loss to Frederick dropped the Pelicans to 7-8 against the Keys this season. The Carolina League's two first-half champions have played the only season series this year in which the Pelicans are under .500. The possible Mills Cup Championship Series preview clashes have gone the Birds' way at home (5-1) but not in Frederick (2-7).
