WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JULY 24, 2011) - Potomac withstood the one hour and 16 minute rain delay and beat out Winston-Salem 6-3 in the series finale on Sunday night at BB&T Ballpark. The Dash trailed by only one run into the ninth inning, but three costly errors allowed the Nationals to add two more insurance runs in the final frame to secure the win.

Unlike the first two games of the series, it was Potomac (17-12, 46-52) who got on the board in the first inning. Francisco Soriano led off the game with a double. After the Nationals loaded the bases with one out, Steven Souza hit a sacrifice fly to put the P-Nats up 1-0.

Dash starter Santos Rodriguez allowed one run on two hits, but left after 1.1 innings because of an apparent injury. Stephen Sauer relieved him and pitched 1.2 innings before also leaving with an injury.

J.R. Ballinger came in to throw in the third and gave up a home run to Jose Lozada with one out to put Potomac up by two. The homer was only Lozada's second of the season.

In the fifth the Nationals jumped on Ballinger. Jeff Kobernus reached on an infield single to start the inning and then stole second base. Destin Hood followed with a looping single into left that scored Kobernus. Souza came up with one out and doubled in Hood to extend the lead to four.

Winston-Salem (14-15, 46-53) responded in the bottom of the fifth when Kevin Dubler walked and moved to second when Austin Yount singled. The runners moved to second and third when Daniel Wagner grounded out and Tyler Saladino drove in both with a two-out single.

The Dash pulled within one in the eighth. Andy Wilkins doubled against reliever Joe Testa before the Nationals brought in Hector Nelo to pitch. Wilkins advanced to third on a wild pitch, and Ian Gac followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to make the score 4-3.

Fielding miscues cost the Dash in the ninth. With one out, Soriano walked and then Kobernus reached on a throwing error by third baseman Austin Yount. After a wild pitch moved the runners into scoring position, Hood walked. Pinch hitter Sandy Leon then hit a grounder to Gac, but the throw home was high and allowed Soriano to score. Souza then reached when Gac missed a catch at first base, allowing Kobernus to cross home and giving the Nationals a 6-3 lead.

Nelo closed out the Dash in the ninth for the save, giving Potomac a win in the final game of the series. Cameron Selik (4-6) picked up the win in 5.1 innings. He allowed two runs (all earned) and left after an apparent injury. Rodriguez (2-3) was hit with the loss in his shortened outing.

Winston-Salem opens up a four-game series with Southern Division rival Kinston for the final time on Monday night at BB&T Ballpark at 7 p.m. LHP Matt Wickswat (3-1, 3.24) is scheduled to make the start against RHP Clayton Cook (6-6, 4.17).
