
Keys Split Doubleheader with Kinston

The Frederick Keys (11-17) split a doubleheader with the Kinston Indians on Tuesday, May 6 at Harry Grove Stadium, losing the first game, 10-1, while taking the second game from the K-Tribe, 4-3 before 1,023 fans in attendance.
The Keys took the second game in dramatic fashion, scoring a run in the bottom of the 7th inning to pick up their first victory over the Kinston Indians (16-11) this season. With the score tied at 3, Keys left fielder Adam Manley scored from third base on a passed ball to give the Keys the victory, 4-3.
Earlier in the game, catcher Ryan Hubele hit a solo home run, his 1st of the season to give the Keys a 3-2 lead in the 5th inning. The Indians answered back with a RBI base hit by second baseman Rodney Choy Foo off reliever Sendy Rleal to tie the score at 3 going into the final innings. Rleal pitched the final 1.1 innings to get the victory, his second of the year. Starting pitcher Rommie Lewis went 5.2 strong innings, giving up 3 runs (1 earned) off 7 hits while striking out 4.
First baseman Mike Huggins and designated hitter Hugh Quattlebaum each went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI in the victory.
In the first game, the Indians jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st inning and scored in 4 of the next 6 innings en route to a 10-1 victory. Starting left-handed pitcher Dave Crouthers (2-4) went 3.0 innings, allowing 3 runs off of 5 hits to receive the loss, his 4th of the year.
Indians starting left-handed pitcher Mariano Gomez (2-1) threw 6.0 innings of 2-hit baseball, allowing only 1 run and striking out 6 to receive his second victory of the year. The K-Tribe was led offensively by catcher Armando Camacaro who went 4-for-4 with a run scored and first baseman Bill Peavey who went 1-for-2 with 3 RBI and a run scored.
The Keys only run in the first game came on a RBI base hit by first baseman Mike Huggins in the first inning.
The Keys will again play two against the Kinston Indians on Wednesday, May 7 starting at 6:05 p.m. Starting the first game for the Keys will be left-handed pitcher Kurt Birkins (1-2, 7.52). He will go up against Indian right-handed pitcher Travis Foley (2-1, 2.81). The second game will see Keys left-handed reliever Anthony Boughner (1-1, 7.11) get his first start of the season. Kinston has yet to announce a starter for the second game of the doubleheader. Tickets for the Wednesday's game can be purchased by calling the Keys box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
