Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
WILMINGTON, DE â The Wilmington Blue Rocks will recognize area students during pre-game ceremonies this week for the Outstanding Student Program. Tonight's game marks the first of seven special recognition ceremonies for our area's outstanding students. Future Blue Rocks game dates that include Outstanding Student ceremonies are May 7, May 10-11, May 21, May 25 and June 4.
Over 70 area schools in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland are involved in the 2003 Outstanding Student Program. This new program honors students with awards given at the teacher's discretion. It includes students who reached academic achievements, maintained good behavior, performed community service and accumulated perfect attendance, amongst other criteria.
Each student honored will receive a voucher for a ticket (box, reserved or general admission) good for a designated game night. On the night of the game, students as well as their school will be recognized on the field prior to the game. After the ceremony, students will receive a voucher for a hot dog and soda as well as a free pass to the Blue Rocks inflatable section (Speed Pitch or Hoop Shoot). Students are encouraged to enjoy the rest of the game with their families.
"The program serves as an outstanding way to reward our area school students who have done something remarkable, in or out of the classroom," said Dave Brown, director of community relations. "In addition, it is a great way for the school to receive recognition for their students' efforts.
Students from the following 10 Wilmington area schools will be honored on Tuesday, May 6: Brader Elementary, Highlands Elementary, Gauger-Cobbs, Maclary Elementary, Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary, St Ann School, St. Anthony of Padua Grade School, St. Thomas the Apostle, Thurgood Marshall and William C. Lewis Elementary. For more information on the honored schools and their dates of recognition, please see the Blue Rocks website at www.bluerocks.com.
