April 27, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

A down pour of rain in the bottom of the eighth could not stop Frederick from defeating the Wisnton-Salem Dash, 4-2, on Wednesday afternoon. RHP Ryan O'Shea allowed just one run on five hits over seven innings as he picked up his second win of the year. For the third straight game, the Keys scored a run in the first and on Wednesday afternoon they were able to hold onto the lead. 2B Bobby Stevens launched a solo homer in the second and Frederick added two more runs in the sixth as the Keys improved to 8-10 on season. The Dash fell to 8-11 following the loss.

Facing LHP Hector Santiago on Thursday afternoon, the Keys put runs on the board in the first two innings of the game. After reaching on a walk, CF Trent Mummey stole second base with 2B LJ Hoes at the plate. With Mummey in scoring position, Hoes picked a RBI when he singled to left field.

The Keys added another run of support for RHP Ryan O'Shea in the top of the second. Making just his second start of the season, 2B Bobby Stevens belted a solo home run off Santiago to give Frederick a two-run advantage.

O'Shea was stellar in his fourth start of the season. He allowed just one run on five hits over seven innings. O'Shea walked two and struck three on the day. His lone blemish came in the sixth inning when RF Jose Martinez hit a solo shot to left.

Frederick added to their two-run lead in a wild top of the sixth inning. Trent Mummey led off the inning with a triple to right-center. After Hector Santiago retired two consecutive Keys, DH Tyler Kolodny reached when he was hit by a pitch and 3B Dale Mollenhauer walked. With the bases now loaded, Santiago decided to return to the full windup. Alertly, Mummey took off for home. Santiago did not notice until it was too late. Mummey's swipe of home game the Keys a three-run lead. Later in Bobby Stevens' at bat, Rodriguez uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Kolodny to score from third.

After the Martinez home run in the bottom of the sixth, the score remained 4-1 entering the bottom of the eighth. LHP Chris Petrini entered the game for O'Shea and after he tossed two pitches to C Luis Sierra the skies opened up and the rains came down. The tarp was placed on the field and a 59-minute rain delay followed. Once the tarp was lifted, Petrini threw a scoreless eighth.

RHP Sean Gleason gave up a solo home run to DH Andy Wilkins in the bottom of the ninth but was still able to close out the contest for his third save of the year. O'Shea improved to 2-1 while Santiago fell to 0-2.

The Keys and Dash will play the final game of the four-game series on Thursday night. Frederick will send LHP Nick Haughian (0-1, 9.39) to the hill while Winston-Salem will counter with RHP Cameron Bayne (2-1, 3.32). First pitch from BB&T Ballpark is set for 7:00 p.m.
