Frederick Keys News Release

Lately all the Frederick Keys news has been about Jake Arrieta going to the Olympics... but tonight, another starting pitcher named Jake stole the show. Right-hander Jake Renshaw threw seven shut out innings, as the Keys defeated the Potomac Nationals 2-0.

The Keys scored first in the second inning off of Potomac starter Hassan Pena. Chris Vinyard blasted his eleventh homer of the season, a solo shot, to give Frederick a 1-0 lead.

They extended that lead in the third. Brandon Snyder drilled a deep homerun to left field to make it a 2-0 ball game.

That's all the run support Renshaw needed. In seven innings, he surrendered just three hits, walking one and striking out five. Left-handers Brett Bordes and Ryan Rodriguez eached pitched perfect innings to close out the victory.

With the win, Renshaw improved his record to 8-9. Pena got the loss. It was his first Carolina League appearance. He allowed just three hits in five innings of work. Unfortunately for him two of those hits were homeruns. Rodriguez picked up his first save of the season.

These two teams will meet once again tomorrow night, as Frederick plays host to the Nationals in the second of a three-game set. Brandon Erbe will be on the hill for the Keys. He'll go up against Jeff Mandel. Fireworks will follow the game. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00. For ticket information, contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
