Salem, VA (July 25, 2008) - The Salem Avalanche, Advanced Class-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, will be hosting the second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night at Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium on Saturday, July 26, 2008. Breast Cancer Awareness Night is presented by South Roanoke Nursing Home. The 6:07 PM ballgame will feature all Avalanche players and coaches wearing pink jerseys to be auctioned off during the game. All proceeds from the auction will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Roanoke Valley Affiliate.

"The Avalanche is proud to host our second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night," said John Katz, Avalanche VP / General Manager. "Early detection is critical to fighting this horrible disease, and it is our hope that, by raising awareness, we can help save lives in our community."

In addition to the jersey auction, fans will have the opportunity to bid on other great items, including a t-shirt and a cap signed by seven-time Cy Young Award-winner Roger Clemens and his son, Koby - a catcher for the Avalanche. There will also be "Pick Your Player" items, where the winning bidder can select the Avalanche player of their choice to sign their item.

For the past 25+ years, Susan G. Komen for the Cure has played a critical role in every major advance in the fight against breast cancer - more early detection, more hope, more research and more survivors.
