FREDERICK, MD - Behind 12 hits, the Salem Red Sox scored 13 runs as they soundly defeated the Frederick Keys 13-2 at Harry Grove Stadium in front of 5,685 fans.

Scoring five times in the second and four times in the fourth, Salem took a commanding 9-2 lead through the fourth inning and never looked back from there as they took the first game of a three-game series that will see the debut of Dylan Bundy tomorrow night at 6 PM.

Red Sox starting pitcher Drake Britton, who came into tonight a miserable 0-7 with a 12.12 ERA against the Keys in his career, got the win after limiting the Keys to two runs on four hits and one walk through five innings.

Trent Howard started for the Keys and takes the loss after going two innings and giving up five runs - three of which were earned - on four hits and two walks.

The Keys in fact led 2-0 after the first inning, but Salem's bats came to life soon thereafter.

Salem would score five times in the second inning to take a 5-2 lead. Xander Bogaerts got the scoring started when he hit his fourth homerun - a solo shot over the left field wall. After Christian Vazquez reached on an error and Carson Blair was on board with a walk, James Kang singled home a runner to tie the score at two.

After a single from Felix Sanchez gave Salem a 3-2 lead, Salem scored twice more from a Jackie Bradley sacrifice fly and Matty Johnson single.

With reliever Justin Moore on the mound in the fourth, Salem poured it on the Keys, scoring four more times to take a 9-2 advantage. Johnson, Drew Hedman, and Michael Almanzar all singled to bring home the four runs in the inning.

Scoring twice more in the sixth inning on an Almanzar two-run homerun and two more times in the seventh, that provided a 13-2 advantage that stood until the end of the game.

Dylan Bundy makes his much-anticipated debut tomorrow for the Keys in a game that starts at 6 PM. Bundy was the Keys' first-round draft pick and is considered one of the brightest prospects in the game of baseball.

An over-capacity crowd is expected and fans are encouraged to arrive early.

Coverage starts at 5:40 on 1450 AM The Source and online at WTHU.org.
