Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD - The Frederick Keys (10-17) collected 14 hits on their way to an 8-3 victory over the Salem Red Sox (15-12) on Thursday afternoon at Nymeo Filed. Preston Palmeiro hit a home run in his second straight game, while Brian Gonzalez (1-2) produced his third quality start of the year and picked up his first win.

Salem got on the board with a leadoff home run from Santiago Espinal. The Keys tied the game up in the bottom of the second. Jake Ring walked and stole second. He then scored on a Daniel Fajardo single.

In the third, the Red Sox retook the lead. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Gonzalez threw a wild pitch that allowed Nick Sciortino to score. Gonzalez was able to avoid any more damage thanks to a pair of strikeouts and a groundout.

Palmeiro tied the game again for the Keys in the bottom of the third with his fifth home run of the year. Later in the frame, Wilson Garcia scored on a Roniel Raudes wild pitch to make it 3-2 Keys.

Frederick added two more markers in the sixth. Fajardo singled and advanced to third on a Chris Clare double. Ryan McKenna then singled in both runners to extend the Keys lead to 5-2.

In the eighth, Salem scored a run on a Kyrie Washington RBI double. However, the Keys responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Clare singled, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a McKenna walk, Palmeiro drove in Clare with a single. Jomar Reyes brought in the final two runs with a single.

Gonzalez tossed six innings of two-run baseball, allowing six hits. He walked three and struck out six. Raudes (2-2) took the loss. He allowed three runs on six hits in 3.1 innings.

The Keys head to Wilmington to face the Blue Rocks on Friday. Right-hander Ofelky Peralta (1-2, 3.63) takes the mound for Frederick. He will be opposed by Blue Rocks right-hander (1-4, 8.06). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m., and can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn Radio App.

The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play their home games at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
