Washington Nationals Third Baseman Anthony Rendon to Rehab with Potomac Thursday Night
May 3, 2018 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Potomac Nationals News Release
Woodbridge, VA - The Washington Nationals have assigned 3B Anthony Rendon to the Potomac Nationals to begin a rehabilitation assignment. Washington's longtime third baseman will join the P-Nats Thursday night at Pfitzner Stadium, as the P-Nats host the Wilmington Blue Rocks (Kansas City) at 7:05pm. The length of his rehab assignment has not been determined.
The Nationals placed the third baseman on the 10-day DL with a toe contusion on April 22nd, retroactive to April 19th. Rendon will begin his rehab assignment with Potomac.
The 27-year-old Rendon has been a member of the Nationals' organization since 2011, when the Nationals selected him with the sixth overall pick in the 2011 MLB Draft out of Rice University. Rendon began his Minor League career with the P-Nats on 4/6/12, but played just two games with Potomac before an injury kept him off the field for the next three months. Rendon played nine games for Potomac in 2012 and hit .333 with five extra base hits and five RBIs.
Rendon played six games with Potomac in 2015 on rehab assignment. In that stint, the Houston, TX native went 8-17 with two doubles and an RBI.
In six years with Washington at the Major League level, Rendon has hit .280 with 79 home runs and 332 RBIs. He has two top-six NL MVP finishes, fifth place in 2014, and sixth place in 2017. Rendon earned the Silver Slugger award for his 2014 season, where he led the National League with 111 runs scored. In 2016, Rendon earned the National League's Comeback Player of the Year Award, when he rebounded from injury and played in a career-high 156 games.
The P-Nats match up with the Blue Rocks Thursday night in the series finale. First pitch is set for 7:05pm and gates open at 6:00pm.
