Frederick Keys News Release

Coming into today, the Frederick Keys had dropped three straight games, and were in danger of losing another series. LHP Brian Matusz made sure that wouldn't happen. The southpaw struck out eight P-Nats in six strong innings to help lead the Keys to a 6-3 victory.

The Nationals were on the scoreboard first. In the top of the fourth inning, 3B Stephen King hit a solo homer to give Potomac a 1-0 lead.

The P-Nats gave it right back, though, in the bottom half of the inning. Frederick took advantage of two costly Potomac errors. 11 Keys batters came to the plate. Six of them scored, giving Frederick a 6-1 lead.

Potomac would score an unearned run in the fifth. King hit another homerun in the sixth, his second solo shot of the game.

Matusz exited after the sixth. He allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits. He walked two and struck out eight. The southpaw looked dominating at times in his fourth start of the year.

RHP Brian Parker pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth. RHP Luis Lebron slammed the door shut in the ninth.

Matusz got the win, improving to 2-1. Potomac starter Carlos Martinez took the loss. He's now 0-1. Lebron picked up his second save of the season.

The Keys will try to split the four-game series tomorrow at Harry Grove Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00. It's Sunday Family Fun Day at the ballpark. Make sure to bring your ball and gloves because you can play catch on the field before the game. For ticket information, contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
