Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD - The Frederick Keys (32-32) could not extend their season-long win streak as the Winston-Salem Warthogs (35-29) hit three home runs on their way to a 12-4 victory.

Branden Florence continued his hot hitting for the Keys with his third home run in four days, but it would not be enough to overcome a Warthogs offense that had each starter finish with at least one hit.

Leo Daigle and Ricardo Nanita got Winston-Salem started in the first inning, as each drove in runs with singles to give the Warthogs a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the second the Keys got on the board as Bryan Bass lined a single to center to score Josh McCurdy, closing the gap to 2-1, but that would be as close as the Keys would come.

Noah Hall would lead off the top of the third inning with a homer to left field, before Nanita singled to drive in another run. The Warthogs scored two more runs in the fifth inning on a pair of homers from Daigle and Michah Schnurstein.

Branden Florence would hit a solo homer of his own, his third, to bring the score to 6-2. In the seventh inning Nick Markakis would drive a two-run single to center field to bring the Keys within two.

Travis Hinton and Michael Myers would each hit two-run singles in the bottom of the seventh. Thomas Collaro and Nanita each drove in runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to seal the Keys loss, 12-4.

James Johnson (5-3) took the loss allowing six runs on eight hits. The Keys bullpen did not fair any better as each pitcher allowed at least one run. James Tiller allowed three runs on two his over 1.1 innings. Richard Salazar gave up a run on two hits over 0.2 innings and Trent Baysinger gave up two runs on two hits in one inning.

Daniel Haigwood (7-2) earned the win tossing 6.2 innings allowing four runs, three earned, on nine hits. Juan Ovalles earned his second save tossing 2.1 scoreless innings.

The Keys and Warthogs play three more game with game starting at 7:05 on Tuesday evening as RHP Fredy Deza is expected to take the mound for the Keys. The Keys return to Harry Grove Stadium on Friday for an action packed weekend with Fireworks presented by Safeway on Friday. On Saturday the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a free Keys Team Card set featuring an autographed card from Jeff Fiorentino presented by Comstar. Tickets are still available by calling the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
