June 13, 2005 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Wilmington, DE -- The Boston Red Sox promoted LHP Randy Beam and INF Dirimo Chavez from the Wilmington Blue Rocks to Double-A Portland of the Eastern League over the weekend. Chavez and Beam became the second and third Blue Rocks to earn promotions this season, following RHP Pete Fisher.
Beam had been a stalwart in the Blue Rocks bullpen, with five saves and a 2.25 ERA. The Sarasota, FL native did not allow an earned run in the month of May in 12 innings pitched. In 19 appearances for Wilmington, the 23-year old held opponents to a .181 batting average.
Chavez was hitting .230 with one home run and 11 RBI at the time of his promotion. After a slow start to the season, Chavez hit a combined .284 (19-for-67) in May and June. The Cabudare, Venezuela, native hit safely in 11 of his last 13 games as a Blue Rock.
Both players have never played at the Double-A level before.
The Blue Rocks activated RHP David Pahucki from the disabled list (strained left hamstring) to fill out the roster following the promotions.
Wilmington starts a four-game series tonight in Potomac before returning to Frawley Stadium for a weekend series against the Winston-Salem Warthogs to close out the first half of the season. For tickets or more information, call (302) 888-BLUE or visit www.bluerocks.com.
