Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

Woodbridge, VA--- The Wilmington Blue Rocks snapped a mini two-game slide with a 3-1 win over the Potomac Nationals at Pfitzner Stadium on Monday night. The Rocks are currently 2-2 on their seven-game road trip.

Jose Vaquedano allowed a first inning home run to Frank Diaz that gave the Nationals a early 1-0 lead. It was the fourth home run of the season for Diaz and his second of the season against the Blue Rocks.

Vaquedano went six innings and allowed one earned run on six hits. He walked no one and struck out six and left with the game tied at 1-1.

Potomac's Devin Perrin limited the Blue Rocks to only three hits and left with a 1-0 advantage after working five scoreless innings in his third start of the season against the Blue Rocks.

In the sixth inning, Bill Bray entered the game and allowed a leadoff single to Bryan Goelz. After Scott White popped out for the first out of the inning, Jeff Ontiveros got Wilmington on the board with a double down the left field line that scored Goelz all the way from first base.

In the eighth, Ontiveros broke the 1-1 tie with a solo home run to left off of losing pitcher Alex Morales (1-2). It was his team-leading eighth home run of the season.

David Pahucki (1-0), who was activated from the disabled list during the day on Monday, made his Wilmington debut and worked two scoreless innings and notched the win.

The Rocks tacked on a run in the ninth inning on a RBI double by Matt Van Der Bosch, who had missed the previous four games with a hand injury.

Edgar Martinez entered in the ninth inning and immediately allowed a single to Salomon Manriquez. After a strikeout, Vince Rooi hit a groundball to shortstop Iggy Suarez, who tried to force the runner at second, but threw the ball down the right field line.

The Nationals had runners at second and third with one out, but Martinez retired Chad Chop on a pop out and pinch hitter Kory Casto on a strikeout to end the game. Martinez notched his fourth save of the season.

The Rocks and Nationals continue their four-game series on Tuesday night. Tommy Hottovy (2-7, 6.94) takes the mound for the start for the Blue Rocks.

Game Notes:

Scott White went 1-for-4 with a walk and has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games. Chad Spann went hitless in four at-bats and had his season-high, eight-game hitting streak come to an end.

The Rocks played their previous 17 games against teams from the Southern Division prior to Monday's game with Potomac. The Rocks are 10-15 against clubs within their division.

The Blue Rocks have had 18 of their last 24 decided by two runs or less.
