Frederick Keys News Release
Frederick, MD- The Keys were unable to spark a late inning rally and fall 2-1 to Crosscutters on Night Out at Nymeo Field on Wednesday night.
Nate Lamb (Young Harris) got the start for the Keys and only allowed one run in four innings of work. Lamb struck out six and allowed just three hits in his effort.
The Crosscutters struck first when Joe Sullivan (South Alabama) hit his fourth homerun of the season. The solo shot gave the Crosscutters a 1-0 lead until the Keys struck back in the bottom of the third inning.
John Volpe (Rutgers) led off the third with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Dennis Kasumba (Hanna High School - Uganda)stepped into the batter's box poised to advance Volpe, when he was hit by a pitch. Crosscutters pitcher, Tyler Kennedy (Florida Southwestern) was able to settle and got Bryce Arnold (Campbell) to pop out to first base. Kennedy then walked Luca Danos (William and Mary) to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed Volpe to score and Kasumba and Danos to advance bases. Kennedy got out of the inning by striking out Brennen Dorighi (Iowa) and Brady Cerkownyk (Connors State).
The only other run of the night would come in the top of the fifth inning when Sullivan would single to right field driving in Stanley Tucker (TexasA&M). Tucker had reached base via a walk and then stole second base. Sullivan then stole second and third base before Corbin Foy (Mercyhurst) walked Jack Oberdorf (Seton Hall University) sparking a mound visit. Foy would remain in the game and was able to get Nate LaRue (Auburn University) to ground into an inning-ending double play. Halfway through the fifth inning the Crosscutters took the lead 2-1.
The Keys were unable to get any runners into scoring position for the remainder of the game as the Crosscutters pitching staff would hold the Keys to only one more hit the rest of the game.
The Keys will host the West Virginia Black Bears on Friday, June 30at 7 PM to celebrate Keyote's Birthday with Bluey and Bingo.
