Keys Drop Second Straight Game

For the second night in a row against Salem, the Frederick Keys coughed up a lead. This time, the Red Sox sent ten batters to the plate in the eighth inning, and ended up beating the Keys 7-4.

Right-hander John Mariotti got the spot start for Frederick, after Sean Gleason was promoted to Double-A. He was spotted an early lead in the second. Catcher Wally Crancer blasted a solo homerun, to give the Keys a 1-0 lead.

Salem would tie the game in the fourth. With nobody on and one man out, Mike Jones homered off of Mariotti, to tie the game at one.

Frederick took the lead back in the bottom half of the inning. Left-fielder Kraig Binick singled, then stole second. He eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Crancer. Frederick led 2-1.

The lead didn't last long. With one man out, Kristopher Negron walked. He stole second and got to third on a passed ball. Aaron Reza knocked him in on a single, to tie the game at two.

The score stayed tied until the eighth inning. Reliever Chris Salberg surrendered a walk to Che-Hsuan Lin to lead off the inning. Reza then hit a possible double-play ball to short. They got the out at second, but second baseman Tyler Henson threw wildly to first, allowing Reza to get all the way to second. Chih-Hsien Chang then walked, putting two on with one out.

Southpaw Brett Bordes came into the game for the Keys. He started off strong, by striking out Jason Place for the second out of the inning. He then walked Jones to load the bases. With Zak Farkes at the plate, Bordes threw a wild pitch, allowing a run to score, and giving Salem a one-run lead.

Later in the at bat, Farkes drilled a three-run homer, extending the lead to four. The Red Sox weren't done. Bordes surrendered another walk to Jered Stanley, followed by an RBI-double to Will Vazquez. When all was said and done, the Sox scored five runs on just two hits and led 7-2.

The Keys made it a three-run game in the bottom-half of the eighth. With one on, Binick hit his second homer of the season.

Ryne Miller picked up the win for Salem, after throwing two innings of shutout baseball in relief. He's now 2-0. Salberg took the loss, dropping his record to 0-2. For the second night in a row, Jason Blackey pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his third save.
