
Keys Combine on Shutout Win over Winston-Salem

FREDERICK, MD - Matt Taylor and Jesse Beal combined to throw nine shutout innings as the Frederick Keys defeated the Winston-Salem Dash 4-0 on Friday night at Harry Grove Stadium. Taylor was brilliant over 7.1 shutout innings, to earn his fourth win, tying him for the league lead. With the victory, the Keys improve to 14-18 on the season.
Designated hitter Lucas Herbst and left fielder Michael Burgess each went 2-4 with two RBIs, accounting for all of the Keys' runs.
Taylor allowed three consecutive singles in the top of the first but retired the final two batters to close out a scoreless half-inning. The Keys got on the board in their half of the first with an RBI single from Herbst that drove in centerfielder Glynn Davis, who led off the inning with a triple. Burgess singled in Herbst later in the inning to cap off the two-run frame.
Herbst returned to the plate in the third inning, and crushed a first-pitch solo homer to right field. It was his first home run of the season.
The Keys tacked on another run in the sixth inning when Burgess doubled to deep center, driving in Brenden Webb, who was walked in his previous at bat.
Dash starting pitcher J.B. Wendelken was pulled after six innings of work, where he allowed seven hits and four earned runs. On the game he struck out 10 (including a stretch from the third to the fifth where he struck out six of seven batters). He was replaced by Kyle Hansen who pitched two innings, who allowed two hits and struck out two.
Taylor was pulled after 7.1 scoreless innings of work. He allowed nine hits, one walk, and struck out three before being replaced by Jesse Beal. Beal went 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up no hits or walks, while he struck out three. Taylor's start accounted for the longest outing by a Keys starter this season, and the longest by a Keys since August 3, 2013.
