Keys Bats Awaken Late

Frederick put an end to its three-game losing streak with a resounding 11-5 win in Kinston as Frederick took a 6-0 early lead and never looked back.

Leading 1-0 in the second inning, CF Mat Angle singled with the bases loaded scoring two runs. Runners moved to second and third bases when the throw was errant and Frederick quickly capitalized. 2B Ryan Adams singled up the middle scoring two more runs and the Keys were atop, 5-0.

Adams had an uneven night flourishing at the plate going 3-for-5 with three RBI's. He struggled defensively however committed three fielding errors, all throwing.

The Keys got a boost from 1B Robbie Widlansky, hitting his first two home runs of the season in the onslaught. Widlansky homered off of the line score of the scoreboard in right-center field in the third inning to give the Keys a 6-0 lead. He would finish the Keys night offensively with a solo home run in the eighth inning.

Frederick got solid work once again from its pen as RHP Joe Esposito worked 2 and 2/3rd innings of shutout ball to pick up his first Carolina League win.

The series continues Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. with Nate Nery getting the start for Frederick.

The Keys return home for a weekend series with Myrtle Beach this Friday, July 10th at 7:00 p.m. On Friday night the first 1,000 fans will receive a free Keys Action Baseball Card Set presented by Extra Innings.
