Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
Former UNC Tar Heel standout set to attend middle game with Potomac
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Charlotte Bobcats guard Raymond Felton will be on hand to throw out the first pitch of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans' second game of a three game series with the Potomac Nationals on Wednesday, July 8 at BB&T Coastal Field.
Felton, the former University of North Carolina star and member of the Tar Heels' 2005 NCAA national championship team, was drafted by the Bobcats with the fifth overall pick of that year's NBA Draft. Last season, Felton established new career highs in rebounds per game (3.8) and steals per game (1.5) while averaging 14.2 points and 6.7 assists per contest.
The 25-year-old Felton grew up just an hour northwest of Myrtle Beach in Latta, South Carolina. Coming out of Latta High School in 2002, he was the top-ranked point guard in the nation according to Rivals.com. Felton, a lifelong baseball fan, will be the second sports celebrity to throw out a first pitch at a Pelicans game this year. Pittsburgh Steelers legendary running back and Super Bowl champion Jerome Bettis was on hand for Myrtle Beach's April 14 game with the Frederick Keys and handled the first pitch honors that night.
Game two of the Pelicans-Nationals three-game set is scheduled for 7:05 Wednesday evening. In addition to Felton's appearance, it is Campers Appreciation Night at the ballpark for the middle game of the series. Tickets are available for that game and Thursday's 7:05 series finale at the BB&T Coastal Field box office, by calling the Pelicans at (843) 918-6000 or by visiting the Tickets page at MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
