Potomac Nationals News Release

WOODBRIDGE, Va- Already among the Carolina League pitching elite, Brad Meyers now has a new set of teams to conquer. The Potomac Nationals announced today that Meyers was promoted to the Double-A Harrisburg Senators after leading the Carolina League in ERA from the end of April to his callup in July. To accomodate Meyers' move to Harrisburg, the P-Nats also announced the activation of outfielder Jesus Valdez from the disabled list.

Meyers (6-2, 1.43) is the most recent recipient of the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week award in which he went 2-0 in two starts spanning 13 innings pitched. Meyers did not allow a run in either start while striking out 11 and currently carries a 21 innings scoreless streak, his second such stellar streak of the season.

The Loyola Marymount product leads the league in earned run average by a large margin, has held opponents to a .222 batting average and has allowed just one home run in 88 1/3 innings pitched this season. He also just received recognition as Potomac Nationals' Pitcher of the Month for June which saw the right-hander go 2-0 with a 1.27 ERA with a 25/6 K/BB ratio.

He also uses the ground ball to perfection, using his two-seam fastball to get opposing hitters to pound the ball into the dirt as evidenced by the team-leading ten double plays turned behind him.

The Californian will rejoin his former P-Nat pitchers Erik Arnesen, Carlos Martinez, Andrew Kown, and Clint Everts in Harrisburg who are all flourishing in Double-A.

Valdez has spent a lengthy stint on the disabled list after injuring his hamstring legging out a double on May 23 at Pfitzner Stadium. Before that injury, Valdez had been one of the team's top hitters, batting .294 with three home runs and 20 RBI in 34 games with the P-Nats.

He joined the Gulf Coast League Nationals on July 1 on a rehab assignment, spending five games with the rookie league team. In those five games, Valdez rediscovered his power stroke, homering in the team's final three games.

He will rejoin the P-Nats in Myrtle Beach on Tuesday night as the team gets set for a three-game series with the Pelicans. Lefty Tom Milone will get the nod for the Nats who will face another southpaw starter in the Pelicans' Cole Rohrbough.

Game time is set for 7:05 ET. You can catch all the action live on www.potomacnationals.com with Dan McGinn and Anthony Masterson starting with the pregame show at 6:45 ET.
