Worcester IceCats News Release

WORCESTER, MA- It was announced today that the Worcester IceCats and the Salvation Army have teamed up for the 2003-2004 season. The partnership will be highlighted at center ice with an official ‘Kettle Kickoff' prior to this Friday night's 7:05 PM game at Worcester's Centrum Centre.

The Salvation Army's red kettles will formally be put into action throughout Worcester County with an IceCats donation during the pre-game ceremony. The time-honored tradition of bell ringing next to the kettles will be heard and seen at IceCats games from that point forward until Christmas. In addition, IceCats players, staff and the ‘Cats popular mascot Scratch will assist in the collections at various sites in the community.

"This is truly the start of something special," noted Captain Steven Lopes Commanding Officer of Worcester's Main Street Citadel Corps. "The IceCats are sincerely committed to the community and this partnership will help to ensure that thousands of Worcester area residents will receive the support they need during the holiday season and beyond."

Along with an active hand in the Kettle Campaign, the IceCats will also aid in the Salvation Army's Toy Drive and the Winter Warm-Up Program, offering food and winter wear to the homeless.

The Salvation Army provides an array of more than 140 different kinds of services, tailored to each local community in which the Army serves, from daycare centers to foster homes; from addictions recovery centers to case management; from family shelters to resident summer camps; from neighborhood gym programs for teenagers to apartments for the elderly.
