Pirates Raise Money, Toys for United Way
November 5, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Portland Pirates News Release
PORTLAND, ME - The Portland Pirates have developed a tradition of helping the United Way of Greater Portland and this season, the Pirates also energized their fans to do just that. On Sunday, October 26th, the Pirates held "United Way Day with the Pirates" in conjunction with Crackers' Birthday Celebration presented by Hannaford Supermarkets. Fans were encouraged to bring birthday presents for the Pirates' mascot. Those toys were then donated to the United Way for distribution to its partner agencies.
More than 130 toys were collected during the game. In addition, the Pirates and Hannaford made a contribution of $5,000 to the United Way's 2003 Annual Campaign during a first period intermission check presentation.
"The United Way is the cornerstone of our charitable efforts, and we are grateful to our fans who generously provided toys to this effort, in Crackers' name, which will be enjoyed by area kids at local partner agencies," said Brian Petrovek, Pirates' CEO. "We're especially appreciative of Hannaford's donation of $2,500 to this year's United Way Campaign as a match to the Pirates' gift of $2,500."
The Pirates are back on the ice on Friday night, November 7th when they host the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7:05 p.m. It's a Margaritas Frozen Friday with the Pirates. On Saturday, the Pirates will visit the Manchester Monarchs before returning home on Sunday, November 9th to host the Springfield Falcons at 4:05 p.m. That day is also a Fleet Family Four Pack Day. In addition, fans are encouraged to bring their skates for a post-game skate with the team.
