
Kernels snap skid with 6-3 win over Clinton

April 21, 2009 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels snapped a three game losing streak and continue to be a perfect 4-0 at home with a 6-3 win over the Clinton LumberKings on Tuesday night.
The Kernels offense had a breakout night, pounding out 12 hits. Five of the nine starters had at least two hits as Alexi Amarista was 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI and Gabe Jacobo was 1 for 3 with a triple and 2 RBI.
Kernels starter Michael Davitt (1-0) allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out five over six innings for the win. Kevin Nabors pitched two scoreless innings of relief and Vladimir Veras retired Clinton in order in the ninth for his second save of the season.
Clinton starter Kenn Kasparek (0-2) gave up six runs on seven hits over 3.1 innings for the loss. Nate Tenbrink was 2 for 4 with a double and Kalian Sams added an RBI double.
With the win, the Kernels improve to 7-4 and are one game back of Kane County in the MWL West. Clinton falls to 7-3.
Game two of the series is Wednesday night at 6:35 pm from Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Lefty Manuarys Correa starts for the Kernels against Steven Hensley for the LumberKings. Gates open at 5:30 pm
