Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The Quad Cities River Bandits set season-highs with 15 runs and 11 hits on Tuesday night at Pohlman Field, scoring in seven of their nine offensive innings during a 15-2 blowout of the Beloit Snappers.

Quad Cities (5-5) pulled back to .500 with the win, led by a 2-for-5, four-RBI night by Osvaldo Morales and a 2-for-4, three-RBI performance by Chris Swauger. Beloit (3-7) committed an error in each of the first seven innings and issued 12 walks in the loss.

The River Bandits got off to a fast start on Tuesday thanks to a bout of wildness from Snappers starter Shooter Hunt, who walked three men and hit another in the top of the first to force in a run.

The second inning featured more of the same, as Hunt opened the frame by issuing two more walks. Later in the second a one-out blooper off the bat off Niko Vasquez loaded the bases and a fielder's choice groundout by Swauger pushed across the first run of the inning. Morales followed with a run-scoring single to right, putting men at the corners with two away. Moments later Morales broke for second and catcher Alexander Soto elected to fire behind the runner at third - but his throw was errant, and as the ball bounced into the left field corner both runners came around to score and the lead stretched to 5-0.

Quad Cities got even more comfortable in the third when they pushed across three additional runs. There were men at first and second with two outs when Paul Cruz slapped a run-scoring single the other way to left-center, and a fielding error by the left-fielder allowed the runners to advance to second and third. The bases were loaded two batters later, setting the stage for Swauger to add a looping single to left-center that plated two more runs for an 8-0 advantage.

The rout was on from there, as the River Bandits added a single run in the fourth and two more in the fifth, thanks in part to two-out errors in each inning. Alex Castellanos added a two-run double in the seventh, while Morales drove in a pair with a two-base hit in the eighth to make it a 15-2 final.

Dave Carpenter (1-0) earned the win for Quad Cities with 1.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Adam Veres started the game and allowed just one unearned run over 3.1 frames while Arquimedes Nieto added three scoreless frames as the piggyback starter. The only earned run was allowed by Casey Mulligan, who yielded three hits in the ninth inning.

Hunt (0-1) suffered the loss after walking six and giving up seven runs - five earned - over 2.2 frames. He was the first of six Beloit pitchers on the night, as the staff allowed a combined nine earned runs and issued a combined 12 walks.
