Kerher, Almedia and Carpenter combine to shut out Cougars, 1-0 Jose Jimenez drives in only run on sac fly

Cedar Rapids, IA - Tyler Kehrer, Yeison Almedia and David Carpenter, combined to hold the Kane County to seven hits in a 1-0 shutout of the Cougars at Perfect Game Field on Wednesday night. The sole run of the game was a sacrifice fly by Jose Jimenez to score Eric Oliver in the fourth inning.

Tyler Kehrer (5-4) allowed three hits, walked three and struck out eight over six innings for the win. Almedia gave up two hits and struck out four over three innings of relief. And, Carpenter worked around two hits and a walk in the bottom of the ninth to record his fifth save.

The Kernels were held to just five hits in the game as Randal Grichuk went 2-3 and Matt Long was 1-4 with a double and stolen base. Jimenez finished the game 1-2 and Jean Segura went 1-4. In recording the Kernels 10th shutout of the season, the three pitchers combined to strike out 14 Kane County batters.

Kane County starter Jonathan Joseph (1-5) was a victim of no run support as he allowed a run on four hits and struck out eight over five innings. Connor Crumbliss was 2-5 for the Cougars.

The series continues on Thursday night at 6:35 pm and the Kernels welcome the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders to the game as part of NFL Night at Perfect Game Field. The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will perform four times during the game and then be available for autographs and photos for 45 minutes on the concourse following their performances.
