COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. - RHP Matt Lollis delivered 7.2 outstanding innings Tuesday against the West Michigan Whitecaps in a 5-1 victory. Daniel Meeley stroked three hits and drove in a pair.

The start was the longest for any Fort Wayne pitcher this season; Lollis allowed a run on five hits and didn't walk a batter while racking up eight strikeouts. The TinCaps are now 13-4 in the month of August.

Fort Wayne squandered opportunities early, stranding seven runners in the first three innings. The TinCaps struck in the fifth as Jedd Gyorko smashed an RBI double to center to break the scoreless tie. Meeley followed with a run-scoring single to make it 2-0.

In the seventh, Jason Hagerty and Nate Freiman drew back-to-back walks to open the inning. Two batters later, Meeley singled home a run. Two batters later, Jonathan Galvez lifted a sacrifice fly to right to double the lead to 4-0.

The Whitecaps got onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth. Lollis allowed a leadoff infield single to Avisail Garcia, who stole second. Lollis retired the next two batters before exiting the game having thrown 100 pitches. RHP Stiven Osuna entered and allowed an RBI single to Hernan Perez, but struck out the next batter to end the inning.

In the ninth, West Michigan put their first two hitters on base but RHP Miles Mikolas came on to retire all three hitters he faced to short-circuit the rally.

San Diego INF David Eckstein went 0-for-4 at the plate but handled his three chances defensively without an error. Eckstein is on a rehab assignment as he tries to overcome a strained calf muscle.

Lollis (3-1) picked up the win; Whitecaps RHP Luis Angel Sanz (2-6) absorbed the loss. The save was the seventh of the year for Mikolas.

Fort Wayne upped its record to 32-19 in the half, 68-53 for the season. The Whitecaps fell to 26-25 in the second half, 52-68 for the year as their franchise-record 12-game win streak was snapped.

The TinCaps continue the three-game road series against the Whitecaps (Class-A Detroit Tigers) Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Fort Wayne LHP Mike Watt (5-4) goes to the hill against Whitecaps RHP Patrick Cooper (1-0).
