Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa â Admit it, ladies. You've been baffled.
You've heard of the shortstop and looked for him, but you can't quite figure out who he is because all the players appear to be the same height.
Not only that, but the guy next to you keeps saying how "that pitcher really has some gas tonight,'' and you don't see â or smell â anything to indicate just what the heck that guy is talking about.
Or maybe you grew up playing the game and understand the infield fly rule, what constitutes a balk and how a pitcher earns a save, but you want to know what it's like to play pro baseball.
Welcome to Baseball 101 for Women, a special class that will be held Saturday, May 10, at the New Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Kernels Manager Todd Claus, the Midwest League Manager of the Year in 2002, his staff and players will conduct the clinic, which runs from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Instruction will be offered in:
- Hitting fundamentals
- Fielding techniques
- Pitching fundamentals
- Rules of the game
Cost is $20 and includes a Baseball 101 t-shirt, lunch following the camp, a ticket to that night's Kernels game against West Michigan and a Certificate of Completion signed by Claus. Participants will be honored on the field before that night's game, which starts at 5 p.m. Space is limited to the first 80 applicants.
Participants should bring a baseball glove and athletic shoes, and come dressed and ready to play.
To enroll, either complete the online registration form available at www.kernels.com, pickup a form at the New Veterans Memorial Stadium or phone 363-3887. A waiver must be signed at check-in.
