
Burlington makes quick work of the Cougars, 5-1

Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees (5-20) got revenge from last night's loss to the Kane County Cougars (18-7), winning 5-1 at Community Field in front of 373 fans. Danny Christensen (1-3) delivered his best start of the season for the Bees. He hurled seven innings, allowing only four hits, one run, two walks, and struck out three. Reliever, Matt Burch, pitched two scoreless innings in relief to finish out the Cougars in game two of the series.
Bill Murphy (2-2), who picked up the win in the opening game of the trip, suffered his first loss on the road. Murphy allowed a season high four walks and lasted 5 and 2/3 innings. He was charged with three runs (two earned), and tied his season high in strikeouts with seven.
The Bees took the lead for good in the sixth inning off Murphy. Damaso Espino drove in the winning run by reaching on a fielder's choice, scoring Mel Stocker. The next batter, Matt Tupman, smacked an RBI double on the first pitch from Murphy. The double was Tupman's first extra-base hit since opening day.
Burlington tagged Jared Burton for two runs in the sixth inning. Alexis Alexander tripled home Eric Lonquist, and on the same play, Alexander scored on a throwing error by second baseman, Francis Gomez.
The Bees were ready from the word go, plating a run in their first at-bat. Stocker reached on an infield hit, and advanced to third base on a throwing error by catcher, John Baker. Stocker scored two batters later on a ground out by Donnie Murphy.
John McCurdy provided the lone RBI for the Cougars with a two-out RBI double to tie the game in the fifth inning. Nick Rogers, John Baker, and Nelson Cruz provided the other base hits.
The Cougars and the Bees play the final game of their series with a special 11:30 AM start on Wednesday morning from Community Field. Chris Mowday RHP (1-1, 6.28) looks for his second win on the trip for the Cougars. Jonah Baylis RHP (0-3, 3.32), makes his fifth start of the season for Burlington.
