Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Appleton, WI - The Cedar Rapids Kernels erased a 4-1 deficit after six to take the lead in the eighth but went on to fall 7-6 in 11 innings to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Saturday evening. Kyler Fedko, Pat Winkel and Wander Javier each supplied the Kernels with multi-hit nights in the loss. The Kernels fall to 45-29, 2-6 in the second half.
Cedar Rapids opened the scoring in the third inning as Dylan Neuse and Kyler Fedko rapped back-to-back doubles. The Timber Rattlers knotted things with a run in the home half then added one more in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Down 4-1 in the seventh, Winkel singled then Will Holland drew a walk before a wild pitch moved both into scoring position. Jake Rucker plated Winkel with an infield single, then Neuse brought home Holland on a fielder's choice back to the mound.
Fedko and Alerick Soularie opened the eighth with back-to-back singles before a double play grounder left Fedko standing at second with two retired. The next four Kernels reached base with RBI knocks courtesy of Javier and Winkel along with an error to make it 6-4 Cedar Rapids.
The Timber Rattlers tied things up with two in the eighth, then walked it off with a bases-loaded fielder's choice in the 11th as the Kernels lineup went cold.
Hunter McMahon provided the Kernels with 3.0 scoreless innings of one-hit, one-walk relief.
The series finale is set for 1:10 p.m. CT on Sunday afternoon in Appleton.
