Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Great Lakes Loons (affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers) at Dow Diamond. This is game five of a six-game series. Season Series: Great Lakes 7, Dayton 3.
Current Series: Dayton 2, Great Lakes 2. The Dragons have hit nine home runs in the series (season high for a six-game set is 13). They have stolen 13 bases in the series, topping their previous series high of nine. The Dragons have averaged 6.3 runs per game in the series but have allowed 9.5 runs per game.
Last Game: Friday: Great Lakes 11, Dayton 8. The Loons overcame a 6-0 deficit. Dayton led 8-6 going to the bottom of the eighth when Great Lakes scored five for the lead. Austin Hendrick, Ruben Ibarra, and Mat Nelson had home runs for Dayton. The game marked the first time that Dragons have lost after holding a six-run lead since April 17, 2017, when they led at Lansing 7-1 after one inning and lost 13-9.
New Club Record: Jose Torres became the first player in Dragons history to steal four bases in one game on Friday night.
June Notes: The Dragons finished the month of June with a record of 12-15, their first losing month of the season. Elly De La Cruz hit .313 with seven home runs, 20 RBI, and an OPS of 1.008. Joe Boyle posted a 0.51 ERA in June while Myles Gayman finished at 1.98.
Dragons in the Standings: Seven games into the second half, the Dragons are in third place, one game behind both Great Lakes and West Michigan. Dayton finished the first half in second place, one game behind Great Lakes.
What's Next: The 66-game second half is underway. The Dragons could qualify for the playoffs in one of two ways: 1) By winning the second half East Division title; 2) By finishing with the next best full-season record in the East Division (behind Great Lakes) should Great Lakes win the second half division title. If the same team wins both halves, the team with the next best full-season record qualifies as the second half representative.
Team Notes
Dayton is first in the MWL in home runs with 91 and first in slugging percentage at .420. However, the Dragons lead the league in strikeouts (their total of 853 is second most in Minor League Baseball).
Player Notes
Daniel Vellojin has played in 10 games since joining the Dragons, batting .375 with a 1.200 OPS. Since June 19 (Vellojin's first game with Dayton), he ranks second in the MWL in on-base percentage, tied for fourth in home runs, fifth in OPS, and eighth in batting average.
Elly De La Cruz (seventh youngest position player in the league with at least 120 AB) over his last 32 games (since May 25) is batting .325 with nine home runs and 24 RBI. De La Cruz ranks in the top four in the MWL in nine major categories: OPS, slugging percentage, home runs, RBI, batting average, hits, runs, extra base hits, and stolen bases.
Austin Hendrick over his last five games has three home runs, two doubles, eight RBI, and is batting .316 with an .895 slugging percentage.
J.V. Martinez over his last seven games is batting .348 (7 for 20) with two home runs and two doubles.
Joe Boyle has an earned run average of 0.65 and opponent's batting average of .086 on the year. Both figures would lead all Minor League Baseball, but he is three innings short of the minimum number to qualify.

Myles Gayman over his seven appearances since May 26 has posted a 1.80 ERA (15 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 14 SO).
