Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels couldn't find the big hit on Wednesday evening against Lake County, going 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and falling 4-2 in the second game of their series. Shortstop Will Holland went 2-for-4 with a run scored, a double, a triple and an RBI for the Kernels. Thanks to a Wisconsin loss to South Bend, Cedar Rapids still holds a one-game lead in the West Division standings.
Lake County got on the board first in the opening frame with a solo home run, then added two in the third. Willie Joe Garry Jr. drew a walk to lead off the home half of three, then Holland blasted a triple into right-center. Anthony Prato followed with a sacrifice fly, cutting the deficit to one.
The Captains would get another run in the sixth on a solo homer for the decisive 4-2 lead.
Brad Hanner, Ryan Shreve, Cody Laweryson and Miguel Rodriguez combined for 4.2 innings of one-run relief, striking out eight batters and allowing just two hits and a pair of walks.
Game three of the series is set for 6:35 p.m. on Thursday at Veterans Memorial Stadium with a Big Screen Thursday presented by First Federal Credit Union.
