Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Beloit, WI - After scoring ten total runs in the first five games of the six-game series with Beloit, the Cedar Rapids offense explodes for eleven runs Sunday to knock off the Sky Carp11-1.
The Kernels' offense started off the jump with a Noah Miller (4-5, 2B, 3 R, 3 RBI) leadoff double to begin the contest. He would score on a Ben Ross RBI single to give the Kernels a 1-0 lead after the first inning.
In the second, a Jeferson Morales walk and an Ernie Yake hit-by-pitch put runners on first and second to begin the frame. Back-to-back singles by Miller and Noah Cardenas plated Morales and Yake, and a two-out, two-run single by Tanner Schobel scored both Miller and Cardenas to put the Kernels ahead 5-0.
Cedar Rapids added two more runs in the third on a Noah Cardenas two-run double into the left field corner bringing home Morales and Miller, who both singled to get on base. After three innings, the Kernels led 7-0.
Beloit scored its lone run of the day in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Jacob Berry solo home run to right field to make the tally 7-1.
Other than that one run, Pierson Ohl and the Cedar Rapids bullpen kept the Sky Carp off the board. Ohl went five innings allowing just one run on four hits, and Mike Paredes, Regi Grace, Niklas Rimmel and Miguel Rodriguez did not allow a hit or a run in for combined innings out of the pen.
The Kernels added a run in the fifth on an error and two more in the sixth inning on a wild pitch, and Noah Miller sacrifice fly to go up 10-1.
In the ninth, Cardenas touched home from third on a balk for the Kernels' eleventh run, setting a new season best.
The 11-1 victory snaps the team's eight-game losing streak as the Kernels improve to 6-8, while the Sky Carp drop to 10-5.
