Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Cedar Rapids snapped a 4-game losing streak Thursday in a 4-0 victory over Wisconsin. The Kernels improve to 24-30, while the Timber Rattlers (34-20) lost for just the third time in the last 13 games. Cedar Rapids scored all of the team's runs in the first two innings.

Trevor Hairgrove hit his first triple of the season to lead-off the first inning, and scored on the next pitch when Ryan Jones grounded out. Kaleb Cowart doubled - extending his hitting streak to 9 games - before Frazier Hall belted his fifth home run of the season to right field for a 3-0 Kernels lead.

One more would score in the second after a lead-off walk. Chevy Clarke took his base, benefited from a balk by Wisconsin starter David Goforth, moved to third on a Wendell Soto single, then finally came home on a Hairgrove RBI-groundout. While the Kernels used the groundout to score some runs, the home team did out-hit the Rattlers 8 to 6.

Eswarlin Jimenez pitched his second straight stellar start for Cedar Rapids. After an 8.1 inning outing on May 26, the southpaw went 7 full innings without allowing a run on Thursday. He also struck out 5 while allowing as many hits and 2 walks.

Logan Odom held the game in the 8th inning before Stephen Tromblee struck out all 3 hitters he faced in the game's final inning. Jimenez (2-3) earned the victory, while Goforth (4-4) took the loss for the Timber Rattlers.
