Kenai River uses shootout to best Janesville, 4-3

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kenai River Brown Bears defeated the Janesville Jets in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams. Janesville's shootout goal was scored by Jordan Himley. In addition to the clincher, Kenai River got a shootout goal from Albin Karlsson.

The Brown Bears overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Kenai River was down 3-1 after a power play goal by the Jets' Michael Louria at 18:42 in the first period. The Brown Bears tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Jack Gessert at 10:00 in the second period.

Kenai River's penalty kill unit could not stop Janesville's power play, which converted on two of three opportunities. With 45 shots on target during the contest, the Brown Bears exceeded the 30.0 shots they average per game this year.

Kenai River additionally got points from Matt Rudin, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Alec Butcher also scored for Kenai River. Other players who recorded assists for Kenai River were Tommy Dierl, who had two and Jake Bushey and Sebastian Fuchs, who contributed one a piece.

Janesville also got a goal from Adam Winborg as well. More assists for Janesville came via Robin Hoglund, who had two and Evan Feno and Cole Pierce, who each chipped in one.

Kenai River took out Kris Oldham after he had made five saves and installed Zach Quinn in goal, where he finished with 19 saves and the win. The Brown Bears incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Logan Halladay rejected 41 shots on goal for the Jets. Janesville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.

Coach Joe Dibble comments, "If we would have stayed out of the penalty box and had the chance to play five on five we would have had a chance at the game. However, we played much better than last night, and that is all we can ask for because that shows improvement."
