September 18, 2007 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kelowna Rockets News Release
Kelowna, BC: The Kelowna Rockets are pleased to announce James McEwan as the 2007-2008 Team Captain. James enters his second season with the Hockey Club and becomes the sixteenth captain in Rockets franchise history.
James began his WHL career with the Seattle Thunderbirds and spent two seasons in the Evergreen State. Following his second season James was released and earned a try out with the Rockets prior to the 2006-2007 season. His hard work and tenacity paid off as he earned a spot on the team and was a key part of the Rockets roster.
James, 20, is a Kelowna Minor Hockey League product and becomes just the fourth Kelowna born captain in Rockets' history. He joins Jason Deleurme, Josh Gorges and last season's captain Chris Ray.
"James exemplifies everything we want our team to be about both on and off the ice," stated Head Coach Ryan Huska. "He is our hardest working player and competes as hard as he can in every practice and game."
Rockets President/General Manager Bruce Hamilton says, "James is a real good story. He was a cast off by Seattle, earned a try out with us and showed why he belongs in this league. We've been lucky enough to have him play here." Mr. Hamilton went onto say, "He has earned the respect of his teamates, coaches and the entire organization as he becomes our sixteenth captain. He follows in the footsteps of some real good captains like Josh Gorges and Ryan Cuthbert to name a few."
James follows the path of some Rockets' captains who were not only leaders on the ice, but off it as well:
