
Wheat Kings Appoint Goalie Coach

Brandon, Manitoba -- The Wheat Kings have added another new face to their coaching staff as they continue preparations for this weekend's home and home season opening series with the visiting Saskatoon Blades.
Wheat Kings' general manager and head coach Kelly McCrimmon has announced the appointment of Matt Cockell as the WHL club's new Goaltender Coach.
A 28-year old native of Winnipeg, Cockell played three seasons in the WHL, beginning with the Saskatoon Blades in 1996 and ending with the Spokane Chiefs in '99. A former fifth round draft choice of the Vancouver Canucks (117th overall) in the 1997 National Hockey League Entry Draft, he currently serves as a Goalie Consultant with Hockey Canada.
In addition to his duties with Hockey Canada, Matt has worked previously at the Jim Park Goalie School, the Vladislav Tretiak Goalie School, University of Manitoba Bison Development Camps and "Goal Net" 1 on 1 Development.
As Goalie Coach of the Wheat Kings, Matt's primary responsibility will be to work with Brandon's netminding tandem of 18-year old veteran Joe Caligiuri and 17-year old rookie Andrew Hayes.

Friday's game will feature a pre-game Tailgate Party, hosted by Montana's Cookhouse in support of the CIBC Run for the Cure. As well, the defending Eastern Division Champions plan to unveil their 2006-07 WHL Eastern Division pennant before the opening face-off.
