
Kelowna Opens WHL Pre-Season with Win

The Kelowna Rockets came from behind in the third period to defeat the Vancouver Giants 4-3 in overtime in WHL pre-season action at Prospera Place in Kelowna.
Cody Chikie scored the winning goal on a Rockets power play 2:49 into the overtime when Chikie fired home a centering pass from Damon Severson to give Kelowna the win. Slovakian foward Filip Vasko drew the other assist on the winning goal.
It was the first WHL pre-season game for the Rockets.
Jessey Astles opened the scoring for the Rockets while rookies Tyson Baillie and Madison Bowey also scored for Kelowna. James Henry scored twice for the Giants while Neil Tarnasky had the other Vancouver marker.
The game was tied 1-1 after the first and Kelowna led 2-1 after two before Vancouver took a 3-2 lead in the third period. Bowey tied the game forcing overtime before Chikie won it.
Jordon Cooke played the entire game in net for the Rockets, facing 28 Vancouver shots while the Giants split the game between Jackson Whistle and Payton Lee.
Kelowna is back in WHL pre-season action tomorrow night when it hosts the Victoria Royals at 7 p.m. at Prospera Place.
