
Kelly Pushes D-Fenders Past Jam

EL SEGUNDO - Ryan Kelly scored a game-high 30 points tonight in the D-Fenders 136-126 victory over the Bakersfield Jam.
Los Angeles (9-19) was led by Kelly, who tallied 30 points, connecting on 8-of-18 field goal attempts, three-of-nine three point attempts and 11-of-12 free throw attempts, while also grabbing four rebounds and handing out two assists. Vander Blue followed suit with 27 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Jamaal Franklin (22 points, 14 rebounds) and Jabari Brown (21 points, four rebounds) each eclipsed the 20-point plateau. Roscoe Smith recorded his league-leading 21st double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds.
Suns assignment player Reggie Bullock paced the Jam (19-9) with 26 points and 11 rebounds, while his assignee teammate Archie Goodwin also reached the 20-point mark with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Jerel McNeal (18 points), Casey Prather (13 points), Xavier Munford (13 points), Mac Koshwal (11 points, 14 rebounds) and Joe Jackson (10 points, six assists) also scored in double digits for Bakersfield.
It was a close game throughout, with L.A. maintaining a 34-31 lead after the first quarter. Kelly and Smith led the D-Fenders with nine points each, while Goodwin paced the Jam with 12 points. Kelly again led the D-Fenders in the second quarter with 11 points, including nine free throws. Brown scored 10 points in the quarter, and the D-Fenders held a 66-58 lead at halftime. Kelly had 18 points in the half to lead all scorers, while Brown followed with 13 of his own.
The third quarter was all D-Fenders, who shot .609 and scored 38 points, behind nine from Kelly and eight from Appling. The Jam was held to .292 on the quarter, and finished with 29 points. L.A. took a 104-87 lead into the fourth, Kelly leading the way with 27 points. The Jam fought back in the fourth quarter, outscoring the D-Fenders 39-32. Blue had 14 points to lead the D-Fenders, while Bullock led the Jam with 15. The rally was too late for the Jam, who fell 136-126 to the D-Fenders.
Los Angeles shot .506 on the night, compared to .435 for Bakersfield. The D-Fenders connected on 37-of-48 free throw attempts, while the Jam finished at 22-of-31.
The D-Fenders host the Jam again tomorrow at 6:30 pm PT in El Segundo.
