Texas Legends News Release
HIDALGO, TX - The Texas Legends started off a double-header against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers with a 126-133 loss on the road. Despite numerous rally attempts by the Legends, the Vipers grabbed the lead immediately and held on through four quarters.
The Vipers stole the first basket from tipoff and went on a 7-0 run before the Legends saw the board. Ricky Ledo knocked down a triple that set the Legends into action and within minutes the lead was cut to one. Halfway through the quarter, the Vipers went on another run for nine straight to take a 12-point lead. The Legends found an answer and pulled within one yet again at the buzzer. The second quarter saw the lead grow to as much as 13 behind 16 points from RGV's Jaron Johnson but the Legends spread the scoring and found themselves down by only six at the half.
The third quarter began with another Viper run and eventually climbed to the largest lead of the game at 18 points with under three minutes to go. Texas' shooting went cold as they were outscored by RGV 24-30 to head into the final quarter trailing 85-97. Mike James hit all 21 of his points in the fourth, shooting 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, to lead the Legends to a 41-point finale. Ledo and Damion James rounded off the scoring with 14 and six respectively, but the Legends were unable to overcome a 16-point deficit.
The Legends outshot the Vipers from the three at 37%, but hit only 49 of 113 total shots and were outrebounded 39-56. Mavericks assignee Ricky Ledo led the team in scoring, rebounds and assists with 26 points, 10 boards and 6 assists.
The Vipers struggled from outside, shooting 19.4%, but made up for it with 51.1% overall shooting. Jaron Johnson led all scorers with 28 points, 10 rebounds. Toure Murry (24 points, 10 assists) and Clint Capela (17 points, 12 rebounds) also added double-doubles for the Vipers.
