Keinan Claims Spot on Team of the Week
September 29, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Dekel Keinan's defensive efforts on top of his second half strike that ensured Republic FC would return to Sacramento with a point in the standings against Reno 1868 FC over the weekend saw the center back recognized by the league with a selection to the USL Championship Team of the Week for Week 14.
Keinan - who made his third start this season for the boys in Old Glory Red - equalized in the 51st minute of Saturday night's match in Nevada after fellow defender Juan Barahona delivered a dangerous cross into the box that Keinan nodded into the top corner and level the match at one all.
The goal was Keinan's first of his career with Republic FC but the decorated defender did manage to score twice during USL Championship play during his season with FC Cincinnati. The weekly league-wide honor is his third of his career, and the first during his tenure in Sacramento.
Keinan is in his second season in Sacramento.
The experienced center back registered two interceptions, accounted for two clearances, won 10 of 11 duels as well as six of six aerial duels and contributed three tackles against Reno. His 11 total duels were tied for the most on the team alongside Villyan Bijev.
Keinan is the Indomitable Club's tenth Team of the Week selection during the 2020 campaign - sixth to the starting eleven TOTW after Matt Mahoney earned the award in Week 10, Dariusz Formella picked up a pair of honors this season, Ashkanov Apollon was named to his first career selection for Week 8 and Jordan McCrary earned a spot for his Week 9 performance. Four SRFC players have been named to the TOTW bench including Juan Barahona for Week 1, Hayden Sargis for Week 7, Cam Iwasa for Week 8 and Kharlton Belmar for Week 12.
Republic FC will look to continue fighting for the top spot in Group A when Mark Briggs' men visit Tacoma Defiance on Wednesday, September 30. The match will be broadcast locally on KQCA My58 and Estrella TV Sacramento, as well as streamed on ESPN+ with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. PT.
