(Charleston-SC)- Ryan Keefer entered Tuesday's game with the Charleston RiverDogs sporting an ERA of 10.00 on the road in 2003. He left with six shutout innings and his second victory of the season.

Keefer, Scott Rice and Jeff Montani limited Charleston to just six hits as the Shorebirds defeated the RiverDogs 3-1 in front of 2,639 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

The RiverDogs were held without a base hit through the first eight innings before John-Paul Davis broke up the shutout with his eighth homer of the season, a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth.

Keefer (2-4) worked ahead in the count for most of the evening, and the Delmarva offense gave its pitcher just enough room to work with.

Randy Ruiz put Delmarva ahead 1-0 in the fourth, launching his second homerun in as many nights, a line drive to left field off RiverDogs starter Mike Prochaska (1-2).

In the sixth, Dustin Yount lined an opposite field single to left that scored Gerardo Alvarez from second. Later in the inning, a wild pitch from RiverDogs reliever Angel Volquez allowed Tommy Arko to score the Shorebirds final run of the night.

Rice came out of the Delmarva bullpen in the seventh and pitched two scoreless innings. Despite the Davis homerun, Montani was able to close it out in the ninth to pick up his eighth save of the season.

Nate Dion and Shawn Riggans had two hits each for the RiverDogs (22-15). Tommy Joyce had a pair of singles for Delmarva (19-19).

Game three of the series is Wednesday night at Riley Park and features an excellent pitching matchup. Scott Autrey (5-0) makes the start for Charleston. John Maine (4-1) will go for Delmarva.

Wednesday is Military Appreciation Night presented by Geico Direct. Members of all branches of the armed forces including the Coast Guard, Charleston Air Force Base and Naval Nuclear Power Training School will be admitted to the game by presenting a voucher for the event at the Riley Park Box Office or by showing a valid Military I.D.

A brief pre-game ceremony will conclude with the fly-by of a C-17 Globemaster from Charleston Air Force Base.

Game time is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
